UA Domain Registration

On December 1, 1992, the ".ua" domain zone was officially delegated to Ukraine — and this date is considered the beginning of the Ukrainian segment of the global network.

By today’s standards, the speed was extremely slow: 2.5 kilobits per second. At such a speed, simply loading the homepage of a modern website would take 2–3 minutes. That’s about 20,000 times slower than the average internet speed in a Ukrainian household today. Yet at the time, the very format of data transmission and the ability to connect with the outside world were revolutionary.

By the end of 1992, public domains were established for Ukraine’s administrative-territorial units — including the regions (oblasts), the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, and the cities of Kyiv and Sevastopol.
