First International Fiber-Optic Communication Line in Ukraine
In 1996, Ukraine built its first international fiber-optic communication line (FOCL), which ran through Palermo (Italy), Istanbul (Turkey), and Odesa (Ukraine), spanning a total length of 3,500 km.
At the same time, the Kyiv–Odesa fiber-optic line was opened, measuring 975 km with branches to Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, and Cherkasy, marking a major advancement in the country’s telecommunications infrastructure.
