Launch of 4G in Ukraine

In 2018, the telecom regulator issued 4G licenses to Kyivstar, Vodafone Ukraine, and lifecell, enabling the widespread rollout of high-speed mobile Internet across the country. Although its rollout was delayed due to frequency allocation issues, the technology spread rapidly after the start.

Within the first two years, users noticed a significant improvement — mobile Internet became fast, reliable, and convenient, even in smaller cities. Following the full-scale invasion in 2022, 4G became a critical infrastructure backbone during the war. When wired Internet was disrupted by shelling or blackouts, mobile networks allowed people to stay connected, coordinate volunteer and military efforts, and maintain business operations.
